The variable "introduction dates employment legislation" refers to the first law enacted by a national government to regulate contracts, such as protection, concerning subordinate, remunerated employment, or typical characteristics thereof for each country. The legislation covered demonstrates that the work relationship or any of its parts have been treated separately from other types of private (civil or common) law.
Coding rules
The secondary literature provided the dates of the labor legislation's introduction (see sources). Legislation without protective provisions (such as Master and Servant legislation governing indentured work) has not been coded. Legislation is coded for nation-states and their legal ancestors, as well as for specific elements of them.
