"Children in employment, total" measures the percentage of children aged 7 to 14 who are involved in economic activity (at least one hour per reference week) and are not attending school, as defined by the Understanding Children’s Work project. It represents the proportion of children in employment within this age group.
Coding rules
The variable measures the percentage of children aged 7 to 14 who participate in economic activity for at least one hour during the reference week and are not attending school and reflects the share of children in employment within this age group.
Teorell et al. (2024:1457) defines the variable as "Children in employment refer to children involved in economic activity for at least one hour in the reference week of the survey.".
