The indicator referes to the participation in the International Large Scale Assesment called: International Computer and Information Literacy Study. The ICILS measures international differences in students’ computer and information literacy (CIL). This type of literacy refers to students’ ability to use computers to investigate, create, and communicate in order to participate effectively at home, at school, in the workplace, and in the community. In addition to student achievement, the study collects a rich array of contextual data on students' home and school environments. It is administered by the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement), which is an international cooperative of national research institutions, governmental research agencies, scholars, and analysts working to research education worldwide.
Coding rules
Participation in one of the studies is coded with 1. All are combined in this indicator. If only a part of the mentioned country took part, we still code it as the larger entity. For example for participation of Dubai, we code the United Arab Emirates.
