This indicator measures the expenditure on the health care function “home-based long-term care (health)” (SHA HC.3.4) in million national currency units following the System of Health Accounts (SHA; OECD et al. 2011). Expenditure refers to the payments related to final consumption of all health care goods and services by the resident units. The function home-based long-term care (health) comprises long-term care (health) services provided to persons within their own home, or in residential settings such as adapted housing that can be considered as their home, rather than in an “institution”. Such residential facilities include community-based settings, such as adapted housing, which provide an individual housing environment in combination with certain services, such as health protection and surveillance, often for elderly people who are becoming more dependent.
