The indicator referes to the participation in the International Large Scale Assesment called: Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study. TIMSS is an international assessment of student achievement in mathematics and science at fourth and eighth grades. Measuring trends in achievement since 1995, TIMSS is administered by the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement), which is an international cooperative of national research institutions, governmental research agencies, scholars, and analysts working to research education worldwide.
Coding rules
Participation in one of the studies is coded with 1. There have been three studies to date: ERCE, SERCE and TERCE. All are combined in this indicator. If only a part of the mentioned country took part, we still code it as the larger entity. For example for participation y Dubai, we code the United Arab Emirates.
